Singapore International Triathlon 2014

Singapore, 23 July 2014: The prestigious 15th annual Singapore International Triathlon is on track to be one of the biggest yet – with a field of some of the world’s top triathletes and new family entertainment over the August 16-17 weekend.

MetaSport Managing Director Nathalie Marquet said the new family carnival and live music were exciting additions to the renowned event.

“While the triathlon will be a similar format to previous years, we’ve added some entertaining new activities for participants and spectators on both days,” Ms. Marquet said.

“There’ll be a free live music concert on Saturday afternoon and a family carnival both days, along with a barbeque, fun duos and free Pilates classes.

“Competitors will still be swimming, biking and running through the beautiful East Coast Park course, but now they’ll celebrate their race with the award ceremony at Angsana Park, along with food, drinks and music.

“This event is not just for elite triathletes. People of all ages and fitness levels can get involved in the mini race, relays and the corporate challenge.

“We’re expecting up to three-thousand participants, with some of the best triathletes from around the world travelling to compete here in Singapore, and we’re excited to be a part of this great event for the first time, working with Triathlon Association of Singapore,” Ms. Marquet said.

As in previous years, the event is sanctioned as an Asian Cup Race by the International Triathlon Union (ITU), the Asian Triathlon Confederation (ASTC) and supported by Sport Singapore.

General Manager of the Triathlon Association of Singapore Eugene Ong said this year’s elite field would be as strong as ever.

“Last year, Asian competitors faced tough competition with Ireland’s Benjamin Shaw finishing well ahead of the rest of the field the course in 1 hour and 57 minutes,” Mr. Ong said.

“Japan’s Chiko Sato took our last year’s women’s event with a time of 2 hours 13 minutes. Zhiyun Lin was the top placed of the Singaporean competitors with a strong time of 2 hours 27 minutes.

“And to add to the prestige of the event, Singaporeans triathletes will battle it out over the Olympic distance race course for the Singapore National Triathlon Championships age-group title,” he said.

The official charity of the Singapore International Triathlon is SportCares, an organisation that helps improve the lives of disadvantaged kids through a sport.
